Project: Playtesting 2 (Stage 4)

Playtest 2

Review 1: Student 1

My first playtester gave me some good feedback regarding the game mechanics and rules, these being:

  • Missing a turn does not affect a single player game.
  • Issues with losing a star when already on zero stars.
  • Getting another roll does not affect a single player game.

Another piece of constructive criticism was that the Finishing tile (Britain and EU united) doesn’t make sense from the perspective of restarting the game (i.e. Not having enough stars to end). He also recommended making more rules and making the board longer, with more tiles.

My thoughts: This highlighted some key issues within my board game that I did not notice; I will definitely alter the multiplayer features so that a single person can play it. I will also try to add more game tiles to make the game longer, this will mean making it smaller so that it can fit on 1 A4 page.

Review 2: Student 2

My second play tester liked the layout of the game and the colors used; she did add some constructive criticism, which was to add more information regarding the rules in the legend. She also added that I should number the tiles so that the board game is more cohesive.

My thoughts: This feedback helped me realize that my game was not explained clearly enough on the page. She mentioned adding more of the rules in the legend. She also recommended adding numbers to the tiles, I like this idea and I may add it in the next design of the board game.

Review 3: Student 3

My third play tester mentioned some of the above criticisms, such as the rules need more explanation and there are elements of the game that is multiplayer (it is currently a single-player game). He recommended adding fewer stars but adding more tiles with negative connotations.

My thoughts: My third play tester mentioned that the rules need to be explained more and to alter the multiplayer nature of the game to be single player.

Lecturer Feedback

My lecturer recommended adding a point system, this would clear up the multiplayer/single player issues mentioned above, he also said that more snakes/ladders (i.e. Riot & $”%*! To Brexit Bus). He also said adding two different outcomes would add an interesting aspect to the game such as Hard Brexit and Soft Brexit, instead of just one outcome.
